A Pteropodák vagy tengeri pillangók a puhatestűek (Mollusca) törzsén belül a csigák (Gastropoda) osztályába tartozó alrend.A tengeri pillangókat a hátulkopoltyúsok közé szokták beosztani. Szervezetük a nyílt vízi élethez alkalmazkodott. Úszóikkal mozognak. Gyenge érzékszervekkel rendelkeznek, szaglószervük (osphradium) és egyensúlyozószervük (statocysták) segíti. Pteropods comprise the orders Thecosomata and Gymnosomata. These groups are ecologically distinct: the thecosomes produce mucus webs to feed on microplankton, whilst gymnosomes are active predators that often feed on thecosomes [19,20]. The thecosomes are further divided into the suborders Euthecosomata and Pseudothecosomata.

[5] The pteropods include the Thecosomata and Gymnosomata, the latter lacking shells as adults. Among thecosomes, Euthecosomata all bear calcium carbonate shells as adults, but the Pseudothecosomata includes one genus (Peraclis) that bears a true shell and several families that have a thin, noncalcareous pseudoconch [ Lalli and Gilmer, ]. Description: pages: illustrations, maps ; 25 cm: Responsibility: by Siebrecht. The gymnosomata form a pelagic opisthobranchs order that, together with thecosomata, are known under the name of pteropods (Pteropoda = wing shaped foot) due to expansions of their bodies functioning as swimming name gymnosomata refers to the naked (gymnos) body (soma). The gymnosomata are commonly called sea angels.

The former are represented by the Superfamily Heteropoda, and opisthobranchs by the orders Thecosomata and Gymnosomata. Of these two orders, we considered only the two suborders of Thecosomata: Euthecosomata and Pseudothecosomata. Pseudothecosomata, Gymnosomata and Heteropoda (Gastropoda).

Group Pteropoda The common name pteropods at the order level and the scientific name Pteropoda are used for Thecosomata and Gymnosomata.

For anatomy and organisation see: Gymnosomata and Heteropoda in this stack. Pteropods are common planktonic molluscs living in all marine environments, from the poles to the equator, from the surface to the bathypelagic depths.

There are two different orders, (1) the Thecosomata, also known as “sea butterflies” with suborders Euthecosomata (shelled and with a good fossil record) and Pseudothecosomata (shelled and shell-less), and (2) the Gymnosomata (shell-less as adults), commonly known as “sea angels” (Table 1).

Multilocus phylogenetic analyses support monophyly of major traditional groups such as Pteropoda, Thecosomata, Pseudothecosomata and Gymnosomata.

A number of species, in particular Atlantidae (Heteropoda), were so far known only from Quaternary or extant assemblages.

Comparisons with published data for Japan allow the conclusion that the Philippine assemblages are coeval with the Takanabe Member (Miyazaki Group) in Miyazaki Prefecture (southwest Japan), a unit which incidentally has.

Other pteropods (Pseudothecosomata and Gymnosomata) occurred in less than 50% of the samples. With regard to the heteropods, Atlanta Lesueur, was the genus with highest presence, recorded in 73–% of the samples, excepting in the spring of (38%).
